My Knees "squeak" when bending, what does this mean?

To help determine if you knee pain is patellar tendinitis, feel and listen for squeaks. To do this place your fingers along the tendon just below the patella (knee cap) and slowly flex and extend the knee. Tendinitis is often accompanied by a "squeaking crepitation" or a squeaky sensation produced by the inflamed tendon. Be sure to compare this to the opposite side; if the unaffected side produces no palpable or audible sound, tendinitis may be present.
