On Field Bleeders

Covering bleeding wounds or protecting old ones on the field can be a problem. Cover the wound with a non-stick dressing such as a Telfa® or gauze pad soaked in hydrogen peroxide and then secure the pad with a self-adherent wrap. One example of a self-adherent wrap is Medi-rip® manufactured by Conco. Medi-rip® is elastic and sticks to itself, not the wound, and it stays in place during competition. It also breathes to allow sweat to evaporate. Severe lacerations should be sutured by a physician during or after the practice or game. Always remember to "glove up" before treating any open wound.
