Osteo Bone
Arthro Joint
-itis Inflammation of
-osis Abnormality of
Fracture Any broken bone
Sprain Injury to the ligaments of a joint
Strain Injury to muscles or tendons
Tendon The attachment of a muscle to a bone
Ligament Connection of bone to bone (provides joint integrity)
Contusion A crushing injury or bruise
Concussion Brain injury that results in any impairment of function for any period of time
Twist Usually a ligament sprain
Dislocation The bones of the joint have been forcibly moved apart and do not return to their normal alignment
Subluxation The bones of a joint are forcibly moved apart and return to their normal alignment.
Articular Cartilage Present on the ends of bones and functions like Teflon on a skillet (when this begins to degrade osteoarthritis is present
Meniscal Cartilage Present between bones in a joint, serves as a cushion or makes irregular bone surfaces more stable
Phalanges Finger or toe bones
Carpals Wrist bones
Metacarpals Bones of the hand
